2Scope & the standards we follow
This policy covers personal data we collect through this website, by email, telephone, messaging apps (such as WhatsApp), and in the course of planning and delivering travel for you.
As an Egyptian travel operator we treat Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020) as our baseline. Where you are protected by stricter rules, we apply those higher standards to you — in particular the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018 for individuals in the EEA and UK, the ePrivacy rules / UK PECR for cookies, and the California CCPA/CPRA for California residents. Where these frameworks differ on a point, we apply the one most protective of the individual concerned.
3The personal data we collect
a. Information you give us
When you enquire, request a quotation, book a trip, subscribe to updates or otherwise contact us, you may provide:
- Identity & contact details — name, email address, telephone/WhatsApp number, country of residence, and (for bookings) postal address.
- Trip details — travel dates, the number and ages of travellers, destinations and interests, budget indications, special occasions, and the content of your messages to us.
- Booking & travel-document data — where a booking requires it, traveller names as shown on passports, nationality, passport number, date of birth, and similar details needed by airlines, hotels or for visas.
- Special requirements (special-category data) — any health, mobility, accessibility, dietary or religious information you choose to share so we can arrange suitable services. We treat this as sensitive and use it only for that purpose, on the basis of your explicit consent (see section 4).
- Payment information — taken and processed by our payment provider(s); we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
- Marketing preferences — your consent to, or objection to, receiving updates from us.
b. Information we collect automatically
When you use the website we and our providers may collect, via cookies and similar technologies (see section 5): your IP address and approximate location, device and browser type, operating system, the pages you view and links you click, referring website, and dates and times of access.
c. Information from other sources
We may receive data about you from: payment processors (confirmation of payment, not card details), referral or affiliate partners through whom you reached us, and social-media or messaging platforms when you contact us through them — each subject to its own privacy terms.
You do not have to give us special-category or travel-document data, but without the information needed to arrange a trip we may be unable to provide the service you have asked for.
4How and why we use your data
We use personal data only for the purposes below, each with a lawful basis under the GDPR (and the equivalent grounds under Egyptian and other applicable law):
| Purpose | Data used | Lawful basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Responding to enquiries and preparing quotations or proposals | Identity, contact & trip details | Steps at your request prior to a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)); our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Arranging, booking and delivering your travel; managing the trip and supporting you during it | Identity, contact, booking & travel-document data | Performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Arranging suitable services for health, mobility, dietary or similar needs | Special-category data | Your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) |
| Sending you updates, offers and journal content | Contact details & preferences | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — withdrawable at any time |
| Operating, securing and improving the website; analytics | Usage & device data; cookies | Your consent for non-essential cookies; our legitimate interest in a secure, working site (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Keeping accounting, tax and booking records; meeting legal duties | Booking & payment records | Compliance with a legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
| Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims; preventing fraud | As relevant to the matter | Our legitimate interests, or legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(f)/(c)) |
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object (see section 9).
5Cookies & similar technologies
Cookies are small files placed on your device. We also use similar technologies such as pixels, tags and local storage. We use them to make the site work, to remember your preferences, and — only with your consent — to understand how the site is used and to support marketing.
Your choices
When you first visit, our consent banner lets you accept or reject each category of non-essential cookie. Non-essential cookies are not set until you agree. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time via the ["Cookie settings"] link in the footer, and through your browser settings. We honour recognised browser signals such as the Global Privacy Control where required.
Categories we use
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to function and for security. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional / preferences — remember choices such as language and prior consent.
- Analytics / performance — help us understand site usage so we can improve it.
- Marketing — measure and tailor any advertising. [Remove this row if you run no marketing cookies.]

7International transfers
Travel is international by nature. To arrange a trip to Egypt — or anywhere on your itinerary — your data is processed in Egypt and may be sent to suppliers in the countries you will visit. Some of our service providers may also process data outside your home country.
Where we transfer the personal data of individuals in the EEA or UK to a country without an adequacy decision (which currently includes Egypt), we put in place an appropriate safeguard recognised under the GDPR/UK GDPR — typically the Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum/IDTA where relevant) — or rely on a permitted exception, such as the transfer being necessary to perform your travel contract. You may request details of the safeguards we use by contacting us. [Confirm your actual transfer mechanisms with your adviser.]
8How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above, then delete it or irreversibly anonymise it. As a general guide:
- Enquiries that don't become bookings — kept for up to [24 months], then deleted or anonymised.
- Booking, financial & accounting records — kept for the period required by tax and accounting law, typically [6–7 years] after the trip.
- Special-category (health/dietary) data — kept only as long as needed to deliver the relevant trip, then deleted.
- Marketing data — kept until you unsubscribe, after which we keep the minimum needed to honour your opt-out.
- Cookies — for the durations shown in the cookie table.
Where you ask us to delete your data, we will do so unless we are required to retain certain records by law, in which case we restrict and isolate that data until it can be removed.
9Your rights
Subject to the applicable law, you have the following rights over your personal data. These reflect the GDPR/UK GDPR and have close equivalents under Egypt's Law 151/2020.
Access
Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you.
Rectification
Have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
Erasure
Ask us to delete your data where there's no overriding reason to keep it.
Restriction
Ask us to pause processing in certain circumstances.
Portability
Receive certain data in a portable format, or have it sent on.
Objection
Object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to direct marketing.
Withdraw consent
Withdraw any consent at any time, including for cookies and marketing.
Complain
Lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority (see below).
To exercise any right, contact us at hello@sillage-egypte.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by law (under the GDPR, normally within one month). We may need to verify your identity first. Using your rights is free, except where requests are manifestly unfounded or excessive.
Supervisory authorities. In Egypt, the competent authority is the [Egyptian Data Protection Centre, once operational under Law 151/2020]. In the EEA, you may complain to your local Data Protection Authority; in the UK, to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
10Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data — including encryption in transit, access controls, and limiting who can see your information to those who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to act promptly if anything goes wrong, including notifying you and the relevant authority where the law requires it.
11Children
Our website and services are intended for adults and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data directly from children. Where a trip includes children, the booking adult provides their details and is responsible for the consent to do so. If you believe a child has given us data directly, please contact us and we will delete it.
12Marketing choices
We send marketing only where you have agreed, or where otherwise permitted by law. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by using it or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages about a trip you have booked.
13California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have rights to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access and deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to limit the use of sensitive information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To make a request, contact us at hello@sillage-egypte.com.
14Changes to this policy & how to reach us
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will give prominent notice of any significant change. Please review it periodically.
